AFCON 2019 UPDATE: Morocco beat Ivory Coast, qualifies for last 16

Morocco are through to the last-16 of this year's  Africa Cup of Nations after beating Ivory Coast 1-0 at Al Salam Stadium on Friday.
Youssef En-Nesyri scored the only goal in the encounter to ensure the North Africans qualify for the last 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in the 23rd minute as Morocco followed up their opening defeat of Namibia with another narrow victory on Friday.
A second successive 1-0 win for Herve Renard’s men means their place in the next round is nothing but secured, while Ivory Coast will need to grind out a result in their Group D match against Namibia.
Romain Saiss made a superb goal-line clearance to deny Jonathan Kodjia in the opening minute, but it was Morocco who took a first-half lead. Nordin Amrabat collected a crossfield pass, brilliantly jinked inside a series of challenges and slipped the ball through to En-Nesyri, who made no mistake with a low drived finish.
Ivory Coast sought an immediate equalizer  with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou quick off his line to keep Max Gradel out and keep the morrocans ahead before Nicolas Pepe shot could only find the side netting from the edge of the box.
Wonlo Coulibaly delivered a fine left-wing cross for Kodjia in the 62nd minute but the striker, who netted his side’s winner against South Africa, failed to hit the target.
As the Elephants left gaps at the back, Morocco pushed for a second and En-Nesyri went close to securing his brace with a glancing header.
Ismael Traore’s ambitious overhead kick was straight at Bounou as Ivory Coast were increasingly  desperate to atleast earn a point from the encounter but Morocco should have had a second in added time when Noussair Mazraoui volleyed against the crossbar from close range.

Kroos: Everyone was happy with Ronaldo's exit

Kroos also stated that he knew his former employees were making a big mistake after shipping him over to Madrid,  and that he still intends to retire at the end of his current deal at Santiago Bernabeu.
He left the Bavarian outfit in 2014, having completed an international treble in 2012-13 with the Bundesliga title, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League, among other honours he can count in his personal trophy cabinet.
Los Blancos will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing season when they face Bayern Munich in one of their pre-season matches which kicks off with a trip to the USA to take part in the 2019 International Champions Cup.
They will face Bayern, Arsenal and Athletico Madrid in Texas, Maryland and New Jersey before returning to Europe for the 2019 Audi Cup alongside the German club, Tottenham Hotspur and Fernaberche.

AFCON 2019 UPDATE: Omerou on score sheet as Super Eagles is first to progress into knock-out stage

Nigeria's Super Eagles became the first country to qualify for the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over the Syli Nationale of Guinea at the Alexandria stadium in Egypt, courtesy of a Kenneth Omeruo’s header in the 73rd minute.
Eagle's captain John Obi Mikel was dropped to the bench as Gernot Rohr adopting a 4-2-1-3 formation with Oghenekaro Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi at the base of midfield, with Alex Iwobi behind lone striker Odion Ighalo. Chigozie Awaziem started at right full-back in place of injured Shehu Abdullahi, while Leon Balogun replaced Troost-Ekong in central defence to partner Kenneth Omeruo at the heart of the defence.
The Super Eagles should have been ahead in the early minutes but both Iwobi and prolific Ighalo hesitated when a few yards from goal after being set up by dangerous cut-backs from the wings.
Winger Moses Simon who started in place of Villarreal's Samuel Cukwueze had a glorious opportunity, after he was found by Ahmed Musa’s cross-field pass, as he did well to dribble past a Guinean defender before his shot was off target. However the Super Eagles’  should have been one nil up in the 32nd minute when Simon played Ighalo on with a through ball,  and the striker decided to take a shot instead of  setting up Ahmed Musa to tap into the empty net, the shot eventually found the side netting.
It was a feisty affair in midfield, as the duo of Oghenekaro Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi both taking turns to stop the Liverpool's Naby Keita from initiating the attack with Omeruo occasionally joining at some point. The unpredictable and pacey midfielder was hounded at every turn, suffering more fouls than any other Guinean in the encounter, but both Ndidi and Etebo managed to stifle the 24-year-old, disrupting most of the opposition’s attacking build-up in the process.
In an open encounter, both teams were dangerous in attack but the Eagles finished the half the more dangerous side, with Alex Iwobi testing goal keeper Ibrahim Kone from 25 yards, while Awaziem headed wide at the back post from the resultant corner kick with after the keeper had misjudged the flight of the ball.
Nigeria, looked more dangerous in the second half as they go in search of a goal when Ahmed Musa broke free on the counter but his cross to Ighalo was blocked and moments later, Iwobi produced again had his curling effort from 20 yards acrobatically saved by Kone.
The Eagles continued to press for the opener which they duly got from defender Kenneth Omeruo, in the 73rd minute. The Leganes of Spain defender evaded his marker to stare home a glancing header beyond Kone from a Simon’s corner kick, his first international goal for Nigeria.
Alex iwobi was later substituted with Samuel Chukwueze coming  on for Iwobi as well also as Paul Onuachu and Samuel Kalu to run down the clock as it appeared that the Guineans weren't going to come back.
Nigeria have now earned maximum six points from their first two games, are top of Group B and have sealed qualification into the knockout stages of the AFCON tournament.

Neymar & Mbappe would be 'dream' Real Madrid signings - Vinicius

The the two most expensive players in the history of the game have both been linked with moves to the Spanish capital this summer
Vinicius Junior says it would a be “a dream” if Real Madrid could lure Paris Saint-Germain pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
Both players have been strongly linked with a move away from the French champions to Real, as PSG continue to flounder in their goal to bring the
Champions League trophy to the French capital.
Neymar joined PSG in 2017 for a world-record €222 million fee, but has persistently been dogged by rumours that he is unsettled in France.
He was engaged in a long-running spat with fellow striker Edinson Cavani, beginning in 2017 when the two sparred over penalty-taking duties at the club.
And his Brazil team-mate Vinicius believes it could make for a perfect transfer summer if Neymar and
Ligue 1 top scorer Mbappe could be persuaded to join the Liga side during the window.
"Of course he [Neymar] could join Real Madrid but, at the moment, I do not know what he will do,” the Real Madrid youngster told Telefoot . “Of course, he could be in Madrid or PSG I do not know, but it'd still better [if he were at] Madrid.
"I want to play with Neymar, for sure, and also with Kylian Mbappe, and all the Madrid fans dream of having him here, and I know it because I'm there. It's not only Madrid fans because the fans of all teams in the world would like to see Mbappe play under their colours.”
Mbappe has continued his devastating progress since joining PSG from Monaco in 2017, scoring 60 goals for the French champions including 33 in Ligue 1 last term to claim the league’s Golden Boot prize.
The France World Cup winner suggested last month
that he saw his future away from the Parc des Princes, an admission that put Real on high alert as they ramp up their stated policy of making ‘Galactico’ signings.
Speaking of his future after being named as the Ligue 1 Player of the Year, Mbappe said: "It's very important moment for me, I come to a turning point in my career.
"I have discovered a lot here, and I feel it is perhaps the moment to have more responsibility.
"I hope that can maybe be at Paris Saint-Germain, that would be a great pleasure, or perhaps elsewhere with a new project."

AFCON 2019 UPDATE: Debutant Madagascar holds Guinea to a four goal draw.

Debutants Madagascar came from a goal down before settling for a 2-2 draw with Guinea in the second match of Group B at the ongoing AFCON championships being held in  at the Alexandria Stadium, Egypt.
Sory Kaba had the Syli Nationale in front in the 34 minute, beating Madagascar’s offside trap to send his team into the lead before the end of the first period  of the game.
But Madagascar  begun the second half with intent and drive, scoring in quick succession two goals in the space of six minutes to turn the game on its head.
Ludergoret's midfielder Anicet Abel grabbed the equalizer and Madagascar's first  ever goal at the African Nations Cup with a glancing  header in the 49th minute before teammate Carolus Andriamatsinoro following it up with a well taken goal in the 55th minute.
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita started from the bench as head coach Paul Put eased him slowly into the fold following an almost two month injury layoff.
He was introduced in the 62nd minute with Guinea trailing they would rally though and level the scoring in the fourteen minutes later through Bordeaux forward François Kamano who slotted in from the spot after veteran striker Ibrahima Traore was brought down in the box by  Madagascar defender.
The draw, which is the first of the tournament, leaves the two nations tied on one point each in Group B with Nigeria leading with three points following their 1-0 win over Burundi  in the first group match earlier on Saturday.
Madagascar qualified for this year’s tournament in an unbeaten run in the qualifying round with two games to spare, winning three and drawing one in their first four group games. They are one of three teams to be making their debut at this stage with Burundi and Mauritania the other nations.

AFCON 2019 UPDATE: Super Eagles squeezes past debutants Burundi

Nigeria’s Super Eagles got their AFCON 2019 campaign off to a winning start after Odion Ighalo came off the bench to score the only goal of an engaging duel at the Alexandria Stadium.
In the event, the Super Eagles picked the vital three points and by so doing topping Group B ahead of the second group match between Guinea and Madagascar.
Nigeria dominated possession in the early stages but the Burundians were the ones with the very clear chances as they were more dangerous on the counter-attack.
Nigeria's chance fell to towering striker Paul Onuachu as he put two headers past the Burundian goalpost in the 7th and 13th minute, but a minute later, Cedric Amissi came close to getting the Burundians in front when he latched onto a well–placed pass and stung Akpeyi’s palms with a fierce, close range shot.
Onuachu’s weak strike in the 27th minute was well held by the Burundian goalie, and a minute later, Samuel Chukwueze sliced a decent chance in the box horribly wide.
Nigeria was forced  to make a first half substitution as Collins replaced right back Shehu Abdullah.
Gael Bigirimana, Abdoul Fiston, Amissi and Said Berahino were a thorn in the flesh of the Nigerian defense but failed to put the ball past Akpeyi.
In the second half, Ahmed Musa came on for  captain Mikel Obi as the Super Eagles look to use his pace and race in a bid to get the much needed goal. But nothing was delivered until Ighalo converted a clever back heel pass by Ola Aina in the 77th Minute to put the Itamba to the sword.
Gernot Rohr's side, who are 89 places above Burundi in FIFA's world rankings, struggled for long periods before getting  the lone goal in the encounter and securing the all important three points in their Group B opener at the Alexandria Stadium.

COPA AMERICA UPDATE: Sanchez powers Chile to quarter-final

Alexis Sanchez put aside a miserable club season with Manchester United as he sent Chile into the Copa America quarter-finals after scoring the winning goal in Friday’s 2-1 win over Ecuador.
Chile began where they had left off in their 4-0 of Japan last Monday, as Jose Fuenzalida put the reigning champions Chile ahead in the eighth-minute as they capitalised on Ecuador's failure  to clear a corner, as Fuenzalida sent an angled volley from the edge of the area into the far bottom corner before Ecuador's Enner Valencia equalized for Ecuador from the spot.
Alexis scored the winner, his second in as many games in this year's Copa America in Salvador as Chile joined Colombia as the only teams to qualify for the knock-out stages after their first two games taking his tally for the national team to 43.but Chile finished with 10 men after Gabriel Achilier’s was sent off.
The 30-year-old Sanchez started only nine Premier League matches, scoring just once, in an injury-interrupted season for the Red Devils in which he struggled to make an impact when he did play.
However, he revealed afterwards that he turned his ankle during the first half, aggravating an old injury.

"I think I have a sprain, I hope it’s not too serious. At half-time they strapped it up, I played on with a bit of pain," he said.

Chile top Group C with six points ahead of their Monday clash with Uruguay at iconic Maracana in Rio while Ecuador on the other hand will be looking to avoid elimination after a second straight defeat, knowing they must beat Japan in Belo Horizonte on Monday to stand any chance of progressing.
Speaking  about the encounter  and the match against Japan, Valencia said;

"We put in a huge effort but we’re making the mistake of switching off and that’s why they scored silly goals,.We’ll try and beat Japan and then see where that takes us."

AFCON 2019 UPDATE: Egypt's off to winning start, defeat Zimbabwe in opening match

Egypt got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a flying start as Trezeguet's brilliant goal secured the moral boosting 1-0 win over Zimbabwe.
Egyptian star Mohamed Salah was in sizzling form in Cairo on Friday, but it was Egypt's other winger who broke the deadlock shortly before half-time in the Group A opener.
It was no less than seven-time winners Egypt deserved, with Zimbabwe's Edmore Sibanda – who was forced off through injury late on – having made a string of impressive saves to keep the tournament hosts at bay.
Salah was denied by another fine Sibanda stop midway through the second half, but Egypt's profligacy did not come back to bite them as they comfortably secured the points.
Egypt talisman Salah was involved inside two minutes into the encounter when his deflected cross forced a save from Sibanda, who then kept out Marwan Mohsen from the resulting corner.
Mahmoud Alaa should have turned home a Salah corner and Egypt were almost punished when Khama Billiat got through at the other end, but Mohamed El-Shenawy was alert enough as he made a brave stop.
Egypt finally got their breakthrough four minutes before half-time , as Trezeguet cutting in from the left fired in a sublime finish into the bottom-right corner.
Trezeguet looked set to get a brace shortly after the restart, only to be denied by Sibanda who pulled off yet another wonderful save to his left.
Sibanda's remarkable performance in the encounter continued, as the 35-year-old reacting sharply to get down to Salah's close-range effort in the 67th minute.
Zimbabwe's goalkeeper finally succumbed to a knock with 10 minutes remaining,  as he was substituted by deputy Elvis Chipezeze, though he proved his worth with a brilliant late stop to deny Salah and ensure Egypt had to settle for a one-goal victory.

Benzema releases photo with Neymar admist PSG exit rumours

Real Madrid star forward Karim Benzema uploaded a photo of  himself alongside the Brazil star as rumours continue to surround a possible exit from the Ligue 1 champions.
Reports have swirled suggesting the Brazil star is unhappy with his situation with the Ligue 1 champions following a second successive productive but injury-plagued season.
Those rumours were only heightened when PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi declared nobody had forced Neymar to sign with the club, while also saying he wouldn't condone celebrity behaviour from any of the squad's players.
Karim Benzema appeared to have added yet another twist too Neymar exit rumours as the Real Madrid foward posted a photo of himself with the Paris Saint-Germain star on Instagram.
Reports have it that FC Barcelona remain interested in a reunion with their former star, however, for that reunion to occur, Neymar must undertake certain steps, including taking a salary cut, with the star’s wages currently only outpaced by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rivals Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation , as they would be looking to pounce on any opportunity with president Florentino Perez hopeful to secure the signature of a player he has long coveted.

Benzema posted the photo of himself and Neymar to his Instagram with the caption of: “Nueve / Neyney #Cracks”.

Significant hurdles remain, however, for any move to Real Madrid, given the likely financial considerations of a Neymar deal, with Liga giants having already spent this summer on the likes of Eden Hazard , Luka Jovic and Ferland Mendy.
Madrid on the other hand will be looking to offload numerous players which include Isco and Gareth Bale, although the club are not willing to give their unwanted players away for less than their market value.
Benzema himself is no certainty to be at the club next season, with his name discussed in reports as possibly moving to PSG.
Neymar is currently recovering from an ankle injury which caused him to miss the Copa America, which is hosted this year by Brazil.
Benzema might just do his current employee a favour of being their super agent to lure Neymar Jr. over to the Bernabeau.

In Benin, UNIBEN Royals topped Group E with a maximum 9 points to go through, while FUOYE dazzlers advanced as runners up after upturning a 1:0 lead to win the game. The match which ended 2:1 in favour of FUOYE dazzlers will see them join UNIBEN Royals as one of the qualifiers from the group.
The league is organised by PACE Sports and Entertainment Marketing in partnership with the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA). The top 32 Universities from NUGA-member institutions will play over a period of 21 weeks, with the final four billed for the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Mourinho reveals future plan: I see my self handling a National Team rather than club side

Former Manchester United  and Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has dropped hints to his future plans, revealing that he sees himself becoming the manager of a national team rather than another club. After successful spells winning trophies in four different European countries, the Portuguese has revealed that he sees his future away from club football.
The controversial tactician has been without any coaching job since he was sacked by the Red Devils in December 2018, having recently appeared as a pundit for broadcaster beIN SPORTS.
The 56-year-old revealed in an interview broadcast by Eleven, that he still has the desire to take on new challenges in the world of management.

"I want to compete in new competitions,” he said. I think about the World Cup and the European Championships."
"For a long time I have had the desire to try out such an adventure. Right now, I see myself more at a national team than with a new club. Is Portugal the right team for me? Not necessarily".

The self-proclaimed ‘special one’ has enjoyed a glittering career in club management since lifting his first league title with Portuguese side Porto in 2003 – a year before winning the Primeira Liga side won the UEFA Champions League with the same team.
Mourinho would then go on to lift the Champions League the second time but this time with  Italian giants Inter in 2010, after initial spells in English with Chelsea helping them win consecutive Premier League titles with in 2005 and 2006, as well as four domestic trophies.
He then moved to Spain where he won  his fourth league title in as many countries with Real Madrid in 2012, and although his spell at Manchester United may not have gone as planned, there is no question that there is little left for him to achieve in club management.
The 56-year-old did not rule out a return to club football when speaking earlier in June however, telling Eleven Sports:

"Winning a fifth championship in a different country or the Champions League with a third club are things I'd like to do. I wouldn't do it just for that. I only go where a project convinces me.
"I want to be happy, not necessarily win, I want to be happy and I don't want to accept a proposal without being convinced of it, that's what I've always thought.
"That's why if [a club] told me 'today there are no conditions to win, but we want you to create the conditions to win', then I would evaluate it."

HIFL update : Varsity league kicks off as UNILAG holds FUTA

A late header from Odu Robert saved the Marines as both teams shared the spoils  at the University of Lagos Sports Complex.
FUTA Tiger's, midfielder Iteade Ibrahim opened the scoring five minutes before the half-time interval when he capitalized on goalkeeper Oroge Olawale's lapse with a cheeky chip to put FUTA Tigers ahead.

The host wouldn't give up so easily as Odu Robert's stoppage time header cancelled out his opener, to ensure the UNILAG Mariner's left with atleast a point from the opening fixture.
The Marines looked more promising in the opening minutes of the encounter with Kelor Smith and Folarin Moses pulling the strings in the midfield, but the Tigers held their ground with several dogged defensive display.

The Marines began the second period of the game with hunger and more possession as they pushed for an equaliser.
Unilag coach Ogunsemore in search of an equalizer brought on Bello Jubril and Pele as the Tigers’ coach Ajibua Alayode responded by added fresh legs to support his team’s defence too.
The game was poised to end in favour of the Akure visitors until Odu Robert made himself Unilag’s hero by converting Fatolu Adeola’s free-kick with a thumping header in the 90th minute, sending the home supporters into frenzy and most importantly keeping their hopes of qualifying to the next round from the group alive.
The Tiger's captain Daniel emerged the man of the match in the cagey encounter as all attentions will now be shifted to their next match against EKSU mountaineers.

Henderson: I should be playing for Manchester United

As uncertainty continues to ponder over the future of David de Gea an Old Trafford academy graduate Dean Henderson, has proved his worth during loan spells elsewhere especially as he believes  strongly that he is ready for a first-team role.
The 22-year-old academy graduate is still waiting on a competitive debut for the Red Devils with his senior experience to date being during a loan spells at Shrewsbury, Grimsby and newly promoted Sheffield United. Moves away from Old Trafford have allowed him to showcase his talent, becoming an England U21 international not forgetting his starling role in helping the Blades secure promotion to the Premier League.
Henderson believes he is capable of taking the No. 1 spot with his parent club though a return to Bramall Lane for next season has been mooted considering his development with the newly promoted side.
Henderson told the Daily Mail of being a top-flight goalkeeper:

"It sounds unbelievable. That was the dream as a kid growing up, what you always aspire to be. You always watch Premier League Years on the telly and to know that could be me next year, I can't wait.
"Whether that is at Manchester United, Sheffield United, wherever, I'm good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper. I deserve that chance. It's a tough one to say where. But do I think I should be playing at Manchester United now? Yes, I do".
"I think I am good enough and I would help the team a lot, in a positive way. If not there I'm sure I could go back to Sheffield United, play a season and then I'll prove to Manchester United what they are missing."

With the Spaniard is yet to commit to fresh terms with the Red Devils and will see his current contract expire in the summer of 2020, it could be that his departure opens the door for Henderson to stake his claim at United.
Henderson is ready if required, adding:

"I would give my right leg to play for that football club. That has been my dream since I was a little boy, being a fan.
"I just know I'm working hard in the background and waiting for any little opportunity that comes up. If it does, I will take it for the next 10 to 15 years."

At the moment, Henderson is focused on international matters with England who are to start their European U21 Championship campaign against France on Tuesday.

Nigeria’s U15 boys on Friday lost their second match of the 2019 International Dream Cup tournament to host nation Japan 1-4 at the Yurtec Stadium in Miyagi.
Following their 3-1 win over Mexico’s U16 on Wednesday, the Future Eagles were confident of a result against the Japanese but they got a lesson in marksmanship and staying power by the Japanese.
Katsushima, who would eventually annex the match ball with a hat-trick, opened the scoring in the 16th minute. But Adeyeye Damilola equalized for Nigeria 10 minutes later.
Katsushima got his second four minutes after the restart, and then his hatrick and Japan's third in the 52nd minute before Suwama Kosei made it 4-1 with seven minutes before stoppage time.

COPA AMERICA: Rodriguez stars as Colombia beats Argentina to break 12-years record.

James Rodriguez got the best of Lionel Messi in the Copa America on Saturday,as  Colombia won 2-0  over Argentina in the South American tournament.
Rodriguez set up Roger Martinez's opening goal in the second half with a superb long pass across the pitch, before substitute Duvan Zapata scored the late winner to seal the victory that allowing Colombia to end a 12-year winless streak against the Argentines.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi couldn't do enough to spark Argentina, which recorded its first Copa America opening match defeat since 1979.
Both Argentina and Colombia are trying to end title droughts, with the Argentines winless since the 1993 Copa America and the Colombians without a trophy having won the 2001 edition.
Argentina lost the finals of the World Cup in 2014 and the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, where on both occasions it lost in penalty shootouts against fellow South Americans Chile.
Messi and Rodriguez had a mostly quiet match at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, though Argentina came closest to scoring with a close-range header by Messi that missed just wide in the 66th before Rodriguez helped Colombia take the lead thanks to his great assist for Martinez's 71st-minute opener.
The playmaker had the ball in Colombia's own field before finding Martinez with a superb long pass. The forward picked up the ball and cut toward the middle before firing into the far corner to open the scoring.
Second  half substitute Zapata sealed the victory five minutes after coming  on by force finishing a cross by Jefferson Lerma in the 86th minute.
Argentina striker Sergio Aguero and Colombia veteran Radamel Falcao also had a quiet  evening as they couldn't help their teams break through their opponents' defense in a tense opening match in Group B.
Argentina will be looking  forward to right their wrongs when they play against Paraguay in their  next group  match in Belo Horizonte, while Colombia will face Qatar in Sao Paulo.
Paraguay and Qatar meet in the other Group B match on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.
Earlier Saturday, Peru was held by 10-man Venezuela to a 0-0 draw in Group A, a result that left both teams two points behind host Brazil, which opened with a 3-0 win over Bolivia on Friday in Sao Paulo.

AFCON 2019: Mane set to miss Senegal opener.

The Senegal captain will sit out the Teranga Lions’ opening Group C fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations fixture against Tanzania due to a suspension, according to head coach Aliou Cisse.
The Liverpool superstar who's  set to miss the Group C opening fixture—which will take place at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo come June 23,after he picked up two yellow cards during the qualifying campaign.
Mane picked up a yellow card in Senegal’s 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on November 17, before recording another booking in a 2-0 victory over Madagascar on March 23.
Aliou said about Mane's unavailability;

"His absence should not in any way bother us," coach Cisse told local journalists, as per BBC Sport . "Certainly the presence of Sadio is beneficial but without him we remain strong.
"Caf have decided, so we will not linger [on the subject].Certainly, with Sadio we would be very good, but even without him we will be very good".

The tournament will be third Africa Cup of Nations for the Liverpool superstar, after missing out in the semi-finals  when he missed the decisive penalty in Senegal’s quarter-final shootout defeat to Cameroon who went on to win the tournament in 2017, though he was a muted presence as the Lions were eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in Russia.

“We all know that Sadio will have a good Nations Cup,” Cisse continued, as per Ahram Online .The players around him have to raise their level. That's how we'll get there. If we received a card in the qualifying round, I do not see the value of counting it during the final phase of the Afcon, Caf has decided that, but we will prove that Senegal exist without Mane." he continued.

Senegal departed for Egypt on Saturday, having previously been at a training camp in Alicante. While on Sunday, the Lions is set to face Nigeria super eagle  in Ismailia in a warm-up  match as they round up preparations ahead of the Nations Cup kick-off.

Match Reports: Warriors hold Eagles in Asaba

The Super Eagles of Nigeria  and Zimbabwe’s Warriors played out a goalless draw in an international friendly  at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Saturday. The match was the last game Rohr needed to test the lads before releasing his 23-man squad for the 2019 AFCON tournament holding in Egypt later in June.
The German tactician made six changes to the side that started in the 1-0 victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt in March, sticking with Daniel Akpeyi in goal.Defender William Troost-Ekong, Abdullahi Shehu, John Ogu, Wilfred Ndidi, Henry Onyekuru and Moses Simon who started against Egypt were all named amongst the substitutes in the game against Zimbabwe while towering striker Paul Onuachu retained his spot alongside, Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Peter Oghenekaro Etebo, defenders Leon Balogun and Jamilu Collins.
The game started on a low note with both teams threading cautiously on the wet slippery surface with the Zimbabweans especially seating deep in the early minutes of the encounter.Onuachu however, missed an early opportunity to put Nigeria in front as the Danish-based striker  shot into the side net after he being put through on goal courtesy of a lovely pass by Samuel Kalu as Nigeria continued to threaten as they came close again as young sensation Chukwueze pulled off a nice move to evade his marker before hitting an effort from the edge of the box, but goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda made an easy save of it. The visitors remain compact in defense as they prevented the host from breaking  the deadlock in the first half.
Second half started with Rohr making series of substitutions with Chidozie Awaziem, Ahmed Musa and William Ekong replacing Aina, Kalu and Omeruo respectively in bid to improve on the first half performance and possibly get a goal,Victor Osimhen replacing the ineffective or rather isolated Paul Onuachu and Henry Onyekuru coming on for an impressive Samuel Chukwueze and captain John Mikel Obi going off for John Ogu.
After the goalless draw, all eyes are now on head coach Gernot Rohr, as he'll  have to release his final 23-man list as instructed by CAF for participating countries at the 2019 African Cup of Nations to be released on or before Monday, June 10 2019. After which the Super Eagles are expected to depart Nigeria for their training base in Ismailia Egypt by the end of the week in time for their friendly game against the Teranga Lions of Senegal on June 16th as they wrap-up preparations ahead of their first AFCON game against Burundi on June the 22nd.

Ramos sets record as Spain defeat Faroe Island

Spain  captain Sergio Ramos has set a new international record as Spain defeat Faroe Islands 4-1 in Friday's European Championship qualifying clash.
The Real Madrid defender went into the game tied with former Spain and Blancos team-mate Iker Casillas in international wins, with 121 victories since making his debut for the Roja back in 2005.
And with Friday's victory he now owns and set the record of highest number of victory with 122 victories in 164 appearances, setting a new benchmark in the history of international football.
Ramos opening the scoring for Spain after just five minutes, setting the tone for the encounter before former Manchester City man Jesus Navas extended the visitors' advantage to two goals shortly after, although the host did pull one back with their own strike on the half hour.
The host were then put to the site after they shot themselves in the foot as Teitur Gestsson netted past his own keeper to restore Spain's two-goal lead before Jose Gaya rounded it up for Spain.
The three points also leave La Roja, coached by Luis Enrique, in a dominant position looking forward to next year's finals in 12 cities across Europe.
Spain have now won all three of their qualifying fixtures, keeping them comfortably ahead of closest Group F rivals Sweden and Romania.

Madrid confirms €100m Eden Hazard deal

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea after the  28-year-old agreed a long-term deal with Zinedine Zidane's side that keeps him at the bernabeu until 2024. The deal is reportedly worth around €100million (£88m) and could rise to about €140million depending on incentives.
Hazard who joined the Blues from Lille spent seven fruitful years in Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as a first-team regular, his performances saw him become a firm fan favourite and helped them to two Premier League titles, two Europa League titles and one FA Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.
He was also named the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 2014–15, and was runner-up for that award on two other occasions.
Named Player of the Year as well as Players’ Player of the Year and also won Goal of the Season award for his stunning goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup - the first Blues player to collect all three awards in the same year.
As well as has being voted the Professional Footballers' Association Bristol Street Motors Premier League Fans' Player of the Year, Hazard was also named in Uefa's Europa League squad of the season and signed off by inspiring the Blues to Europa League glory, scoring twice and claiming an assist in the 4-1 win over London rivals in the final in what was his last game for the blues.
The Blancos sent representatives to London earlier this week to meet with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, indicating how serious Real Madrid were about securing the Belgian's signature having endured a poor 2018/2019 campaign in which they finished way off the pace in the La Liga title race as well as falling to Ajax in the last-16 of the Champions League.
Hazard who has made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid, as well as playing under his childhood idol Zinedine zidane, called the move a 'dream' near the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
With his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring at the end of the 2019-20 season with the belgian superstar making it known he wouldn't be signing an extension, forcing the blues to cash-in on him rather than losing him on a free.
Chelsea football director Granovskaia thanked Hazard in a statement,;

"Although it is with sadness we say goodbye to Eden and we made it absolutely clear to him the club wished him to stay, we respect the decision he has made to take on a new challenge in a different country and follow his childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid. The memories he leaves us with will not fade. He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously."
He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club, a wonderful individual to have around and a joy to work with. We look forward to welcoming him back to Stamford Bridge in the future."

Hazard becomes their third signing of the summer window following confirmation of Eintracht Frankfurt Luka Jovic and Porto's Eder Militao's arrivals, while Brazilian wonderkid Rodrygo has also joined up with the club.

More to Portugal than Ronaldo-Van Dijk

After helping  the Netherlands book their spot in the decider with a 3-1 extra-time win over England in Guimaraes on Thursday, ahead of the Nations League final against Portugal, the Dutch defender is focused on more than just the superstar on the other side of the field as he's fully aware of other threats having played along side and against some members of the team.
Virgil van Dijk said there was more for the Oranje to worry about than just Cristiano Ronaldo in their Nations League final against Portugal.
Van Dijk, who's been considered one of the world's best defenders will go head to head against Christiano Ronaldo who is arguably the best player on the planet in the final on Sunday. The Liverpool defender told reporters;

"We'll see. It's not only Cristiano Ronaldo we're going to face, we face a great Portugal. We will see what's going to happen, I'm looking forward to playing this final with this team, and we're going to give everything that we can to hopefully hold that trophy in the end and do everyone proud."

While Ronaldo starred again against Switzerland, a Portugal teenager – Joao Felix – has generated plenty of buzz with his performances for Benfica and he's  also aware of players such a Bernado Silver who just helped Manchester City to the premier league trophy over his team.

UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE: Defensive errors cost England again as Holland come from behind to book place in final.

Several costly errors punished the Three Lions in the semi-finals encounter with Netherlands  depriving them of a first ever final in the Uefa Nations League final.
Gareth Southgate's men ran to an early  lead which was then surrendered after series of error and loss of concentration proved a persistent weakness in the Three Lions squad.
England were dominated in possession throughout by the Dutch who created the best chances in open play, and they continued to ask questions from the England defence from time  to time.
Marcus Rashford’s penalty put England ahead in the first half. However bad England couldn't hold on much longer  in the second  half as Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt rose above John Stones to stir home a glancing header, though  the 19-year-old Dutch was guilty of causing the penalty that gave England  the lead after some casualness in possession caused the foul on Rashford.
Although Jesse Lingard looked well to have won it for the Three Lions at stoppages time after finishing from a nicely worked team play but was annulled after the referee's consultation that VAR.
Jordan Pickford fielded decent if tame efforts from the likes of Memphis Depay and Steven Bergwijn and for all their emerging talent elsewhere, there is a sense that Ronald Koeman’s side currently lack a bona fide front man.
Memphis was lively and provoked mistakes in the England defence but should have bagged at least a goal for himself had he not been wasteful in front of goal.
Pickford tried his best, making a fine save from Memphis after Stones was punished for his indecision but an unlucky Kyle Walker couldn't stop Promes’s effort rebounding off him and finding the back of the net.
Stones was guilty again in the third as Ross Barkley won’t be thanking his former Everton team-mate for the pass but Promes’s pressure, combined with Memphis’s cool head inside the box, put the Dutch out of sight.
This was a good opportunity to atleast make history for themselves and possibly hope for a silverware and they blew it as their lack of assuredness and sloppiness on the ball throughout the encounter, meant they wouldn't be able to dominate the midfield, control the tempo  of the game nor pose too much of a threat going forward.
They will have the third-place playoff against Switzerland on Sunday, but the meaningful stuff is over. They depart Portugal with little or nothing to show.
The Nations League final  still got a decent final even with the absence of too gonna such as France,Germany,Italy, with the two best teams on show so far shaping up for a decent fight.
For Southgate's men who have been impressive in Euro 2020 qualification – another reminder that they've got so much to do before they could be considered world beaters rather than the minnows they have dominated.

UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE: Ronaldo hat-trick sends Portugal to final

The Juventus star man was the talking the match as he scored thrice to help Santos's men reach the finals of the Uefa nations league.Ronaldo's hat-trick was enough  for Portugal as they reach their first ever UEFA Nations League final after a 3-1 win over Switzerland on Thursday night at Estadio do Dragao Stadium in Porto.
Ronaldo who only scored once in Portugal's last two games which had previously ended in a draw struck home a brilliant free-kick which left the Swiss goal keeper Yann Sommer completely helpless as their inquest began.
Switzerland looked the better team for long spells and were rewarded with a penalty with VAR taking center  stage and deservedly drew level after half-time thanks to Ricardo Rodriguez's goal from the resultant spot kick.
Ronaldo got his second  of the night after a nice exchange of pass with Manchester City midfielder Bernando Silva finishing off a nice run from the midfielder on the right flank.
That, simply, was not enough for Ronaldo. Thanks to a solo effort this time around, charging down the left, leaving Manuel Akanji twisted beyond belief, before slotting past Sommer once more into the far corner.
Portugal are back in Porto for the final on Sunday while Switzerland will meet the loser of Netherland's clash with England in the third-place play-off in Guimaraes.

Hudson-Odoi finally commits to Chelsea

Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi will sign a new five-year deal at Chelsea to end any doubts about his future with the club this summer following interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Chelsea had previously appeared close to losing the 18-year-old after he handed in a transfer request in January with less than two years remaining on his contract.
Bayern made an offer of £35 million ($44m) for Hudson-Odoi which was rejected by Chelsea and have appeared to  somehow retain the service of the teenage winger. Though Ohio's representatives had not reopened talks regarding a new deal since before January, but recent reported suggest that he has been increasingly keen to stay with the Europa League winners .
He could now earn as much as £100,000 a week in his new contract after his value skyrocketed following his impressive performances for Chelsea, in addition to winning his first caps for England.
Hudson-Odoi who was, at times, frustrated with lack of play time under manager Maurizio Sarri, who looks set to depart Stamford Bridge for Juventus in the near future, has now made a decision to stay.
However, after making  four Premier League start in a row, Hudson-Odoi saw his season ended prematurely with a ruptured Achilles tendon in a 2-2 home draw with Burnley.
Bayern had showed the most serious interest in Hudson-Odoi,though teams like Real Madrid, juventus and Dortmund were reportedly interested but will now likely have to look elsewhere for high-profile summer signings as the teenager prepares to commit his future to Chelsea.
With Eden Hazard set to depart for Real Madrid in a deal which could be worth in excess of £100m and Odoi's preferred number 10 jersey available, Chelsea have been determined to keep hold of their other wingers as their transfer band is still active, meaning they can't afford to lose their  best players.

Buffon set to depart PSG

Gianluigi Buffon will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer when his contract expires, after rejecting contract extension which would  keep in in Paris beyond summer,it has been confirmed.
The 41-year-old Italian goalkeeper joined the French giants last year on a free transfer from Juventus, signing a one-year contract.and went on to make 25 appearances in all competitions as Thomas Tuchel's team won Ligue 1 but were beaten in the Coupe de France final and knocked out in the early stages in the Champions League as well as the Coupe de la Ligue.

"Following joint discussions, Paris Saint-Germain and Gianluigi Buffon have agreed to not renew the legendary goalkeeper's contract which expires on 30 June 2019," a statement on the club's website read.

Former Juve shot stopper also revealed in an Instagram post that PSG had been offered him another deal, but he willingly rejected the offer.

"PSG proposed a contract renewal that I did not feel like accepting, driven by the desire to prepare myself for new experiences and new professional challenges," he said.

In his farewell message, the Italian legend said;

"Thank you all for everything I have had the opportunity to experience in Paris, thank you for the emotions that we have shared together.
"Twelve months ago, I arrived at Paris Saint-Germain filled with enthusiasm, welcomed by the incredible warmth of the fans. It was really moving. Thank you, once again, from the bottom of my heart. I leave happy to have enjoyed this experience which has undoubtedly helped me to grow.
"Today my adventure outside Italy comes to an end. I would like to thank the chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the whole club and my teammates. I wish you all the best, convinced that together you will write the pages of a wonderful story.
"Ernest Hemingway wrote that there are only two places in the world where people can live happily: at home and in Paris. Today onwards, this will also apply to me: Paris, in some way, will always remain my home... Allez Paris! Thank you and good luck with everything!”

TRANSFER UPDATES: who's heading where?
